A Study for Correlation between Self-Concept and Nursing Role Perception of Nursing Students


Abstract
This study attempted to analysis the correlation between self-concept and nursing role perception of nursing students. So that we may provide the data not only for the nursing role perception of nursing students but also for the teaching of nursing.
The subject of the survey were 446 students in nursing college by guestionaire from october 12 to 27,
1987. . Analysis of data was done by use of decriptive statistics, F-test, ANOVA, pearson correlation coefficient. The result of this study may be summarized as follows.
1. The nursing role perception level Belt four areas; the mean distribution of perception was 3.34^4.7 2 the role was perceived to be in order of freguency as a facilitator, change agent, coordinator and a3vocator role.
2. Variables which influenced the self-concepts were the academic grades, financial condition, degree Af satisfaction with nursing and degree of wish with comprehensive nursing care._ 1) The juniors have a higher level of self-concept than seniors (F=3.47 P=.019) 2) The higher level of finanical condition, the higher level of self-concept. (F=3.96 P=.0196) 3) The more satisfaction with nursing, the higher level of self-concept. (F = 11.65 P=.031)
4) The students who wished comprehensive nursing care were higher level self-concept than that of others. (F=5.58 P=.004)
3. Variables which influenced the nursing role perception were the academic grades, degree of satisfaction with nursing and degree of wish with comprehensive nursing care. 1) The seniors have a higher the nursing role perception than juniors. (F=3.04 P=.048) 2) The more satisfaction with nursing, the higher level the role perception (F=3.63 P=.006)
3) The stuents who wished comprehensive nursing care were higher level the role perception than that of others (F= 7.302 P = .008)
4. The correlation between self-concept and nursing role perception. The higher level of self-concept, the higher level of nursing role perception (r=.2108, P=.000)
